Part 1: Embracing the Hidden Seasons: Discovering Your Identity in Christ

People spend their whole lives trying to answer who they are and what their purpose is. Life is full of opportunities and choices, and if we don’t know our identity, we could end up in a career, relationship, or situation we’re not built for. In this series, we want to explore what God and the Bible tell us about our identity in Christ and what that means for our lives and daily actions.

To get to know you and your character, you’ve got to isolate yourself with God first. Hiding yourself with Christ means you will experience moments where you feel like your whole life is under construction. Colossians 3:5 tells us about “sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, greed” and more, we should put to death (NIV). We often feel buried, but we must remember that the hidden seasons create strength the unveiled seasons cannot reveal!

God wants to gift his people with “compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience” (Colossians 3:12 NIV). These qualities form our character and our hearts towards peace and are not developed in front of people, but in a one-on-one confrontation with God and your past life (Isaiah 43:18). In storms of life, when challenges and relationships squeeze you, what do they accomplish? Frustration, mediocrity, and weakness or focus, courage, and strength? The hidden seasons are the times when you experience God’s loving pressing and pruning. The hidden seasons are sacred seasons because they are where sustainability is built!
